How I decided that I'll study Psychology, and what happened next

Blog Post 3: Themed/Free post - career related.

I've always been a curious person, and I'm very interested in a lot of topics; when I was a kid everything looked amazing and that's why I've wanted to be a lot of things, like a vet, an artist, a doctor, a writer, a dentist, etc. When I grew up, I realized that I loved equally biology and social sciences, and I couldn't choose between them, but all of the traditional careers that I knew involved only one of them, and it wasn't enough. I had to choose 'cause the end of school was approaching and I felt pressure.

Around those years I started to go to therapy, and I was fascinated about the tests that my therapist applied to me and I wanted so bad to understand them. Also, the therapy helped me a lot. I really wanted to study human mind, and emotions, the brain, social relationships, all of it. I realized that my mind have always been thinking in that way, everywhere I go, I think about how I'm feeling and how the others are feeling, thinking, and how my actions can have a lot of emotional repercusions. I found all of this fascinating, and I wanted to fill me up with knowledge about all of these human stuff and mental health, so at the end of the day, it wasn't too hard to choose.

I love my career, especially in this University, because I've learned a lot about different areas, like anthropology, ethology, neurophysiology, statistics and history. It's a very versatile career, and I'm grateful about that, cause I've always thought that I don't want to be a therapist in a consulting room talking one to one, and before finish school I was very insecure about apply to this career because of that, but now I know that there is a lot to choose from and there are so many different types of psychologists.

I hope to become a good psychologist one day, 'cause I really want to help people and this country, which is one of the places with worst public politics on mental health, even more now in the pandemic.
